Hi

Im dan from Yorkshire, Im 26 a time served plumber and begain my apprenticeship 2007 at college and finished may 2009. I couldnt continue my gas training due to college cancelling all further gas courses for our year. I left and then went on to carry out my gas training at Wakefield skills college gaining my ccn1 and met1, HOPING to go into metering, but after one interview at Eon and an outragous number of applications to agencies and companies such as ph jones meterplus (which apparently only deal with electric) i have hit a brick wall on this.

I realise smart metering is kicking off and metering isnt what it used to be, but what i would like to go into is commerical metering.

I have 4 years experience in the heating trade, on the job ive soldered upto meters, purged, done everything, and what really p'd me off is having some woman at a recruitment agency called merrydane recruitment say ''do you think your experienced enough?'' lol

Surely theres someone on here who can direct me, i.e give me a number for their supervisor to get in contact to the right people not just receptionists.!

Thanks

Dan

You'll have to do a commercial changeover and a commercial meter course

That's what I believe. Best thing to do is speak to a training centre that offers the course

i have done, i phoned friday.... natural gas training centre in leeds... they quoted me what the carillion engineers do. and thats cocn1 i can go straight onto that due to having my ccn1 already.. in all i was quoted 779 adding cert fees training and a book lol

i have savings but im just wondering if i pay for it and i dont end up getting a job id be p'd off!

Dan, have a look at the British Gas Careers website, if there are no vacancies for metering, try something related such as insulation installer. Once in the door so to speak, its easier to move sideways to something more rewarding.

I know a lot on here knock BG, but with metering it's difficult to get started anywhere else without experience. The Smart meter guys also get electric training, so that open up other doors as well.

Good luck in your search.

(P.S. - PH Jones has now been bought out by BG)
