Anyone Changed a Worcester 24CDi RSF Combi Diaphragm?

Changed one yesterday. Now I don't think I am the best gas man in the world by a long shot, I am still relatively new to the game. But I have never worked on a boiler that is such a pain in the backside!

I spent 3 hours 45 mins doing it. Worked after like, but christ! I tried just un-screwing the diverter head to expose the diaphragm, but the access was so tight due to the location of the plate I had no choice. Then the dhw outlet wouldn't come off. I ended up taking most of the boiler apart and still couldn't get the diverter out. But I had enough access to then undo the screws, change the diaphragm and refit, for the dhw outlet to start leaking.

Managed to get it out and change the o-ring, refitted and was ok. I know it is an old boiler now, but the design was just terrible.

I usually go for the whole valve as you get all the replacement washers with it! A good learning curve though yeh?

Not the easiest for a rookie but doable in 90 minutes with practice. Whoever designed it wants shooting IMO. Your next challenge should you chose to accept it is the diverter on an icon 23t.

its a pig to do, like Steve i just replace the whole valve,order up a washer/o ring pack and replace the diverter to flow plastic housing as well and i re assemble it all with silicone grease but it still leaks every where,sometimes its just easier to sledge the heap off the wall

BG fitted loads and loads as did the local authority I use to work for ... Like yourself ,Mark, I'd be up to my eye's in silicon grease! Would always say a little prayer before turning the water back on :rofl:

i get loads of these aswell, i take out the pcb now aswell at the same time as they seem to have a habit of pouring water out over it even when its drained. Just pop it back in once its filled back up, i.e. been taken apart 5 times to get it to stop leaking.

i dont take the pcb out i pop the plastic pins and bungee it to the flue

not a bad shout gasman, will try it with the next one should hopefully save a bit more time.

They are a right pig. Last one I did boiler was fitted 200mm from floor, side on in a small cupboard. Was a few choice words used that morning, not just about the poor design but the guy who installed it that low.

I think I was quite lucky with it tbh. I was given a new diverter valve plus diaphragm. Rang Worcester to make sure when pulling of the plate I wasn't yanking on something that shouldn't be. I was going to change the whole diverter, but the number of connections looked daunting, so decided to press on with the diaphragm change only. I robbed the diverter washers, so can't take it back. End of the day, job was done, so I am happy. Only had the one leak which a new rubber and half a tube of silicon grease fixed!
