Need a short length of 1/2" and 3/4" copper pipe, 6 inches each would do.

I just want them to play with trying various fittings because every time the 'imperial question' arises I have to argue with myself over which is smaller, which is bigger, what fits, what doesn't etc. Call it physical reference material if you like.

Anyone got some knocking about in their shed or somewhere?

no, but you could get the same result with a metric to imperial fitting and metric pipe.
1/2"x15mm the fitting will be a nice fit one side and sloppy the other,
telling you that the 1/2" pipe is a fraction bigger.
3/4"x22mm the 3/4" is smaller and the 22mm pipe won't fit that side.

1/2 inch copper needs a 16mm to 15mm socket, available at Pts. 3/4 copper is slightly smaller, the fittings are readily available.

What are the 16mm to 15mm fittings for that I've had to buy?

For connecting 16mm pipe to 15mm. I've never had to use an adaptor to fit 1/2" copper, a 15mm fitting goes straight on.

Some of the old gauge I've come across is just to big for 15mm. Yorkshire do adapters, so it does exist. Honest!

90% of time a 15mm will go in the half inch. Sometimes it needs a wee tap with a hammer. Occasionally it just wont seem to go on......

Just out it on a bit of 15pipe and hold it while you stick a bit 15 in the other side and waggle it about to flare the socket. Job done:)

I've got some 20 thread adapters in the van. That stuff scared the pants off me first time I came across it.

Great for the scrap run !! :)

Cheers all!

I was out earlier restocking my supplies and picked up a handful of 1/2"x15mm and 3/4"x22mm couplers as well as some 3/4" brass olives. Just making sure I have an 'emergency box' for those not-very-often awkward situations should I ever come across them.

So many differing views and ideas for when it comes to the old 'imperial question' which is why I still want a piece of 1/2" and 3/4" to play with, see what works and what doesn't.

If you don't come across any sooner I'm going to be ripping out a cast iron bath in two weeks. I'm guessing they'll be 3/4" on the hot. Cold has been repiped to accommodate electric shower so that will be 15mm.

Ill post ya a piece if your still looking

some of the fittings I have had from pts and city plumbing recently are that tight on the 22mm pipe I wonder if I need imperial adaptors :)

Boring thread now mate.
You have been enlightened as to what fits what, accept the wisdom of others and focus on earning a crust.

As is 28mm and 1" copper.

That is not correct. I have come across plenty of old 1" copper than no 28mm fitting would go on. Adaptors are needed or a file and a bit of patience if you are caught out on a Sunday like I was last time.

Was actually just asking if anyone had a few pieces knocking about, wasn't really after starting a debate.
