And if so I'm thinking sockets would need to be seriously deep or is there something out there that can adapt a set of monobloc spanners so they can be used with something with a ratchet?

Cheers

Just seen this, expensive at £150 but looks the business.

Some reviews implying sockets often not deep enough which is what I suspected.

What I want is something that can apply a ratchet to something resembling monobloc spanners

Just thought....Would an allen socket set be the answer? The monobloc spanners should fit over the respective allen socket size and then can be operated by ratchet? Anyone tried this?

There’s this bit of kit: Monument Tools Monobloc Spanner Set 5 Pcs - https://www.NoLinkingToThis/p/monument-tools-monobloc-spanner-set-5-pcs/6057H?tc=JA2&ds_kid=92700055262507126&gclsrc=aw.ds&ds_rl=1244066&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI07K_9ur36wIVE-ntCh0KzwUDEAUYASABEgJINvD_BwE which can be used with this: Monument Tools Pro Basin Wrench 4-in-1 Tool - https://www.NoLinkingToThis/p/monument-tools-pro-basin-wrench-4-in-1-tool/36735?_requestid=350593, but I’d rather just stick to my mono spanners, don’t install many, and the time it takes is minimal imho.

I have several double ended monobloc box spanner’s - I usually fit one inside another (or even three together) to get the working end lower down inside the sink cupboard below the bowls. It is then a lot easier to do up. I just use a tommy bar though (never thought of a ratchet - although the appropriate size should just fit on the end of the last box spanner). You don’t need to go too tight with them anyway or everything starts to bend! (Plumber’s forearms!!)

Tried that and it didn't. Probably I think because the box spanner measurements (11mm, 12mm) refer to the inside measurement or the nut size. The outside measurment of the monobloc spanner is slightly bigger so doesn't seem to fit inside a ratchet spanner (or the one i tried)

That's why I was thinking a socket to hex/allen of the appropriate size as that should fit properly inside the appropriate monobloc spanner? But not tried this.

this should have been posted here

I tired that on a couple of sizes and it wasn't a good fit, I could force it to slip. Which size is that?

A thought occurs: The size of monobloc spanners refers to what exactly? Because the nut it goes over is named after the size of the threaded rod isn't it? Is anything made that's actually an exact fit for going inside a monobloc spanner that isn't part of a deliberately made kit?

If you want a good fit, try buying a hex/Allen type socket to go on your ratchet.
Buy one that’s too big and “adjust” it to the size/shape you require with an angle grinder.
I have several “home made” sizes/shapes that started life as cheap rad tail spanners

I'm thinking a hex allen socket of the right size should be a good fit anyway as the size corresponds with size of the nut on threaded bar?.. I bought one to try and it was a good fit.

I'm thinking these two together would be the ultimate combo

One of these in your palm so you can use other hand to stablisise yourself or the tap

Stick relevenant one of these on top, and then into the monobloc spanner

And if wanting to join two monobloc spanners together you could put standard rad spanner style ratchet spanner at the end

Hmmmm I have my doubts on anything tough/stubborn I reckon the gap would just flex . Decent tools for tough applications are made of metal not plastic in my experience.
