Hi all,

Now, I have applied for an apprenticeship at a well known company (wont name for certain reasons) but anyway its a good company with a strong brand in my area.

now the problem i have is this.........................

i was actually sacked from my previous job (not the one im in now, previous to that and it was sales not plumbing) would you be honest and admit to this and argue that you have learned your lesson and become a better person or would you try and hide it untill you get the job and when and IF you get it and they receive references explain why you lied ?

to be fair I would normally lie and deal with it when it happens (as i did in my current job and they didnt sack me) its just that this is the ideal job for me as far as i can tell and i dont want to blow it.

I know i havent even got an interview yet and am not even guarenteed to get one and then there may be a 1000 applicants but I just want to prepare !!

Thank you all in advance for your help. 😕

hi. Be up front when asked. The reason you were asked to leave being your lack of sales successes. And it was not your bag. Your more technical and practical. If you had your hand in the till, you do not deserve a future.

Firstly i may as well just lie as it wasnt due to lack of sales success i fell out with my manager and life was made very awkward for me in fact some would say i was bullied out !! i made the mistake of voicing my opinions.
secondly i find it extremely rude that you would make such a sweeping statement accusing me of being a thief without knowing the first thing about me !! especially when it is not true
thirdly - everyone in life deserves a second chance, nobody gets it right first time ! single mindedness like that is the reason we have re-offending youths all over the place !!

that was un called for

Hi. When asking a question, you have no control of the answer. The word "IF" gives the benefit of the doubt. Given one chance suggests what it says. So whats with the re offenders bit? Sensitivity is not a quality i would be looking for when interviewing for plumbing / heating trainee. Just be yourself not that which you feel they want. And above all tell the truth.

I cannot see that anyone has accused anyone else of anything. But then, I understand both written and spoken English 😀

P.S. I am not accusing or implying anyone of not being English, British, whatever ....

P.P.S. OP, if you are so thin skinned, this is not the game for you.

before any of you post, read the rules or pay for your actions.

otherwise.
i agree,

lying is not a good quality in life or indeed for an employer to hire one. if found out, i for one would be on it like a ton of bricks and make anyone caught lying to me suffer badly or have them sacked, simple as that. if you was employed in that perfect job, is it worth it?.

secondly,
if i caught any one with their hand in the till, they wont be able to pick their nose for a very long time (that statement is not aimed at you o.p it is just how i work).

if your up front about things, you can bend truths to your benefit as you have the head start on your previous es, therefore they may not be followed up.
this will also show that you have a quality of honesty to others which future employers are looking for.

good luck.

Sales enviroments (sp) are usually like that, full of bell ends with snazzy hair cuts, normaly have a high turn over of staff.

Why do you need to use the sales job as your reference? cant you use somone else?, if it was just hand bags then I cant see the relavance of the situation to your new job.

You are always better being up front about anything you may think will influence the outcome of the interview. If the do check references at least you have put over your side of the story.
Btw honesty is the one thing any applicant must have as far as i'm concered and i don't give a **** how rehabilitated they may be. They would never get a job. (But obviously not for that reason😀)

Its not about sensitivity is it ! its about the closed and judgemental mind of some people !

Sounds a response,do not go into to much detail,if you say you fell out with boss ect,may look like you have trouble with people in authority and taking orders

As for hand in till remark,it was a general remark, not personally aimed at you jono I am sure, people forget that a big part of our job is that we can be trusted in other peoples homes

You do not say how long you was in the sales job,if short time, maybe say you were traveling to broaden your horizons

usually if you give someone as a ref, tell the truth as it will come back and bite you on the bum an looks worse

Hopefully this small negative, will be cancelled out by your enthusiasm for the job and many people know, a lot of these sales jobs treat staff like animals and run by strange people who are easily upset and often sack people to cover there incompetence or as a excuse for not meeting unrealistic targets

Good luck to you anyway
fingers crossed it comes through for you

imho

Thank you, that is exactly the kind of response i was looking for, something constructive.

I was only in the job for a year but i see your point. I was kind of hoping the fact that i have beenin my current job for 2 years would have some bearing on things
