Who employs one, if not, why not!

I had one for 2 .5 years and taught him all i know.😱

He would work for me for 4 days as well as working two evening at Tesco`s and Sat Sunday as well.

Was worth it just to carry tools to and from the van (especially on a Friday Tbox weighed the same as boiler by then)

He is now on a career break in Ibiza for 3 months..before his final exams.😎

Be looking for another one soon...

i agree every firm should have an apprentice (but i work in a college) there is funding of up to £8k per year from SNIPEF to go towards training up here as well

we do ,skills solutions,£95 a week,he,s learning and we get a extra pair of hands
4day on job ,1 day college,no tax,or n i contributions to make as a employer

apprentice's truly what is the point? you train them up for years when they think they know it all they leave and set up on their own - cos they believe they know it all, they are young and do - as i did when i was their age.
good for carrying tools.
we have three on at the moment - they are keen and doing well, but my god their tutors think they are gods gift to the world. ringing up every month asking about their progress, explaining how such and such had a near miss and it wasnt recorded in the correct book. why are you showing your apprentice how things are done in the real world - and not the way it is according to our ideas.
the tutors are less than 30year olds, know more than their students - but thats it. its all about money for the boys. if they had more to offer or a curriculum that reflected the real world and could then guarantee their "placement" (entitling the college to about 30k) would get a job at the end of the day, or at the very least stay with the firm they trained with for a bit - they would get a higher opinion from from me.
i view apprentices as tool carriers, money for the boys, makes the government look good, waste of my time ! but does save my back so thats ok.

its a bit harsh to say apprentices are only tool carriers, if someone didnt take a chance on me in 1978 i wouldnt be where i am now (sound like reggie perrins boss there)

Only tongue in cheek,🙂 if he was no good do you think I would have kept him for 2.5 years.

I am pushing him to go self -employed via a Prince of Wales Grant, he can still subsidise his income while still working at Tesco.

There are plenty of good lads out there and i cannot see why more small firms (i am a sole trader) do not take more on , i see it as a win, win situ.

Good luck to the fellow
