Ariston EuroCombi Hot water Fault

My sister has moved into a house with the above boiler and after running the hot tap for a few seconds a red lights shows up on the display and you have to press the reset button. Once the button has been pressed it works ok. The water dosen't really get that hot which leads me to believe the heat exchanger maybe blocked or scaled.
Has anybody comes across such a problem, I am gas safe but not too experienced on boiler faults.

Just the news she wants haha. I might have a dabble inside again as yesterday it worked once I had the cover off and the pcb down tray down. Maybe a loose connection, hoping it's that simple.

If it worked with the cover off I tend to think APS issues whatever the boiler! that could mean venturi blocked or flueing issues! I am not that familiar with this particular boiler but first thoughts when you mention okay with case off is flueing or APS!

+1 aps can give this fault on the sx20 and a23 eurocombis

he a couple of these with dry soldered joints on the pcb and when the front is dropped down and moved they work intermittent .the ones i did were both the rh pcb dry joints on the transformer. another fault i have had causing one to lock out on over heat is the hot water thermistor the sensor seemed to have corroded to bits .ariston are quite good to talk to on the phone when you get through.

check aps i have had a couple of these with aps problems, but i agree not great boilers and dont chuck any money at it!

won't be chucking money at it, it still works she'll have to grit and bear it for the meantime, while she saves up for me to put a duotec in
