A special needs school that I work for want to install a shower next to a sluice sink that is used for washing down contaminated items which contain soiled items of clothing, nappies etc. The shower is going to be used to assist with cleaning down the dirty items.

Im concerned about back-flow prevention, due to where they need it, they could easily end up dropping the shower head into the sluice sink. Other than feeding the shower from a separate tank with an air gap, or fitting the shower away from the sink can anyone come up with an idea?

Cat 5 risk so break tank needed and it's own hot water heater

Have a look at grundfos home boost

Pipe Interruptor possible, depending on what head pressure is required.
A damn site cheaper than a break tank if you can get it to work.

Can't fit them to a shower hose as the resistance causes them to back up

Depends how high you wanted to install it & what the restriction on the outlet is. Just like the larger Shaun "possible".

An even cheaper option is normally to either fit a shorter hose or a retaining clip / spring system to prevent it breaking the AA air gap just like a kitchen sink tap spray gun.

Thanks for the replies, Im tempted to try a pipe interrupter and try reducing the flow the out of the shower to prevent it backing up.

I have raised them up before to give greater head.
They work fine on main fed urinals with the bend & spreader.

Yes but your not going up hill eg on the outlet to the shower
