We're doing a bit of refurb work in a rented commercial property, the gas work is being carried out by the landlord's so called engineer. My partner was round yesterday afternoon, on arrival he spotted a new Worcester Greenstar flue sticking through the wall with a terminal guard fitted. Thinking there was a new boiler installed he went in to find.... The existing Baxi 105e SE combi still in place, Baxi 105 flue bend in place with the Greenstar HE telescopic flue stuck into the bend and taped up with foil tape!!! The previous Baxi flue was damaged. Needles to say the appliance has been disconnected and is not in use.
The guy taking on the property (a friend of ours) said the engineer and the landlord work together renting properties, and the guy just somehow got himself through a gas course and got himself registerd just to work on their properties! The flue had been installed yesterday morning and the boiler had not been fired up since, quite scary to think what could of happened if this had went un-noticed...
Anyway, our friend has asked us to repair the boiler properly and he will bill the landlord. But this "engineer" is clueless, I would imagine this is one for Riddor, and a call to Gas Safe. Never been in a situation like this before, whats the whole process like, does it bring a lot of hassle/time upon ourselves?
