Hello. I have a combi boiler and a shower which is fed off the main water ststem as opposed to electric. Whenever i turn the shower on i get a rapid knocking noise as the water rises to the overhead shower head. This continues for a few seconds until the water is flowing freely and then stops? Could someone please advise. Thanks Tonybrode

Yep, sounds like water hammer and proper pipe clipping will help fix it. Also check that the shower isolating valve is correctly opened and any other valves on that run. Maybe dirt got into the shower unit after installation and causing a partial blockage, especially if your mains pressure going to it isn't that good.

It is almost certainly a return valve in the shower unit at fault, get the shower serviced or non return valves replaced, I'm guessing it hasn't been a problem before and just started doing it?
