Hello all, Has anyone got any tips for replacing basin wastes on full ped basins. Its the tighting of the nut on the new waste i struggle with without removing the ped. Is there a tool on the market for such a job? ie a small adjustable that opens enought to fit on the waste. Any help would be great. Cheers.

Undo the screws that hold it to the wall till they are just in, then tilt the basin up and slid the ped forward or twist it for access.

Basin fixings are rusted and grounded out and ped has been siliconed madly to the floor and to the basin.

Bore the screws on the basin out gently but leave any silicone thats round the basin and If the peds screwed down then take out the screws and slide the pedestal forward so the basins resting on it. If the peds siliconed down then get a paint scrapper and cut through the silicone thats holdin the ped to the floor..Sometimes a lip on the basin makes it real hard to do this . But be gentle as excerting force on liftin the basin . If all else fails sometimes a doofer (22mmjaw) will grab the ped trap nut and manage to tighten.

If theres not a lip on your basin you might get away without touching basin screws.

Cheers kris but its the waste nut i need to tighten. Trap nuts i just use a flat blade on the ridges and hit with a hammer. Shame i couldnt do this on the waste nut lol.

The only way I can think of doing it without doing the above is to remove the waste and make it in with plumbers mait and hold the nut with your hand and use a large screwdriver to turn the chrome part of the waste, you should be able to get enough on it.

Instead of tightening nut up drop a couple of screwdrivers down waste and turn waste in to waste nut you should be able to hold waste nut with grips in one position if nut spins, hope you understand what I mean.

Sorry waste nut . Thats just same . Take ped out but if cant then remove trap and use basin open socket. Do u have one ??? A huge open through socket. If the traps off youl get the socket straight on . Bobs yur uncle and fannies are ace.

Basin spanner. If all else fails 4lb hammer can fix most things..... did you say on a previous post you hammer the trap nut ....ooooch see i tol you 4lb hammer

If you can't remove the basin or pedestal, then to take out the old waste consider using a junior hacksaw with new blade to cut up through the centre of waste & through the nut.
Use Footprints to tighten the new waste nut, or do as others suggest & hold the nut with footprints while turning the new waste from above using a large flat screwdriver. Be sure to leave a slot directly opposite the line of the basin overflow or it will block up easily eventually. I hate that most don't do that!
