Can anyone help. Sometime ago now I noticed a very bad sewerage type smell which seems to come from under the bath. On inspection it appears that the bath drain pipe has been leaking onto the floor boards for some time however the smell seems to come and go. I do not believe there is a problem with the plumbing as I had a plumber fit a new trap etc. Is it possible that this smell can still be coming from the floorboards or joists underneath months after the leak? Someone says you can by a neutralising agent to spray the floorboards with anyone know what it is?

as the floorboards go chuck some strong pine bleach on them to stop fungal growth.

alternatively stop pssng on the floor,

is the smell comming from beneath the bath for sure and not from it?
if its from it it will be the trap, if not, then the drains or a musty smell from the timber wich can take weeks to dry out naturally.

Is the smell really like sewage which is a mixture of excrement and urine, if so then it is probably coming back from the sewer,
If on the other hand the smell is of stale urine then you probably have a leak on the
WC pipe

The logic behind the statement is as follows,

When you flush the loo the urine is mixed with the water but the excrement stays
in shape and passes by the leak whereas the urine tainted water leaks out, collects
in the wooden boards and causes the stink,

THe smell is deffinately under the bath and cannot possibly be urine. As i said it appears there has been a leak from the bath trap onto the floor boards underneath over a considerable time short of ripping the bath out I am looking for a neutalising agent to put down, I have tried neat bleach but that did not work. Anyone got any ideas?

Are you sure the leak no longer exists, if so clean are with a disinfectant dry area really well and allow air to complety dry out damp areas it will take a couple of days.

It cannot be the trap has my plumber has put in an additional trap plus some fancy vent. It is the floorboards. Thanks for your replies.

Regards.

JP:)

if area been damp for a while, you may have a pest control problem under floorboards

ya mean dead rat or mouse, died by bleech poising?. yeh they really stink dont they.?.

What do you mean by a pest control problem how do the floorboards getting wet cause that problem and what sought of pest?

mildew, bacteria, there could be alsorts under the boards holding moisture. you need to totally dry the area to be sure and the smell should go.

if it dosnt then id have the boards up
