Hi - we have a baxi instant combi 105e for 9 years and had nothing but trouble with it. Since Friday it was making a loud noise but we still had hot water but the radiators were bearly warm. On Sunday the noise stopped and so did the boiler. The fan neon light was flashing and so rather than have the expense of calling an engineer out over a bank holiday weekend, I read the manual and followed the instructions to remove the fan. I managed to do it and cleaned it up and noticed that it would not spin round freely in the upright position but upside down or on its side it was fine. I adjusted it and got it working no problem. When I had reinstalled it back onto the boiler, the air from the vent was making the fan spin freely on its own. I fired the boiler up and then it jammed again - I am making an assumption the fan is knackered and am picking a new one up tomorrow morning - any ideas if this is what it will be?

things can go badly wrong if you fit this yourself, its a safety component, and yes the instants are rubbish nothing like the normal 105 e,call in a gsr engineer, for safety s sake

Silly question but if I install it correctly - and believe me I follow the instructions very carefully - what could happen if there is a bigger problem?

As said, the fan is part of the flue system and should be replaced by a qualified gas safe person,am sure any charge incurred will be more than compensated by the safety of your family.🙂

you and your loved ones die and it has happened with a instant albeit the flue come apart, baxi rep told me on the last course i done

Thanks - blimey was all set to install it myself in the hope it was a cheaper way of doing a quick repair
