did a tank and cyl to combi swap this wk .the old boiler was a baxi back boiler with the htg pump on the rtn - perhaps some of the older guys can shed some light on what I found . the flow from the boiler went from the boiler and teed to upstairs and down stairs rads the rtn from upstairs and down rads teed then the pump back to the boiler . the cylinder was on the end of the upstairs rad circuit - the boiler has not been working for ages but from what I saw the hot water would only work with the rads or the immersion. the only thing I noticed was all the upstairs tess off the rad circuit were swept tees was this the norm years ago ? . the boiler could not possibly gravity through the pump and not heat the upstairs rads ?
