Hi, I've decided that i want to become gas safe register, how do i go about this? do i need to get a qualification in plumber first?
I don't have any NVQ etc in plumber but I'm familiar with the work i know basic soldering, piping and I've found an employer whose willing to take me on and help me build my portfolio but i don't have the slightest clue where to start with this, can anyone help me please

Well get yourself down the local college or gas training center and register yourself on the course ,if youu have someone who will help with your portfolio, the is a big hurdle over already

imho

if you have an employer to build your portfolio then you must have a clue

Go to college and sign up for you NVQ Level 2 plumbing for 2 years then another 2 years studying NVQ Level 3 after you have passed them take your ACS assessment and then you can sign up for you gas safe registration.

If you have somebody who is willing to train you up etc then he'll know what quals you need and where you need to go to do them. Just ask him to point you in the right direction or get him to do it for you and but him a pint :)

I mean like how do i start with my portfolio? is there anywhere where i can get a template?

Im sure your college give you a folder with all the jobs in it. You just have to fill it in.

You need to be registered with your training provider to start your portfolio. They will tell you what they expect and what they want you to complete. You have a long way to go before collecting gas portfolio.

Learn to walk before trying to run.

You can take some photos of some of the work you are no doing and possibly write down some details of what you are doing but I doubt it will count towards your ACS portfolio. You definately need to talk to a training provider and ask them the best way to progress.
