Best way to start nvq level 2?

I'm coming up to the end of my 2 year C & G's Heating and Ventilation level 2 course.
I would really like to start the nvq as soon as the course has finished so was just wandering what is the best way to approach the situation?
The tutors haven't explained yet in full about the nvq but I guess sending out a covering letter with a cv would be the best way.
Would it be best to work for nothing whilst doing the nvq assessments?

You may find that you have to work for nothing in order to persuade a plumber to let you tag along. Work is slow and I get at least 2 letters/CV's a week from people after the same thing.

Write your letters and do your CV, send out as many as you can and if you are lucky you may find someone. Good luck with it.

In my experience:

Pay about £1600 have 3 - 4 visits from a C&G approved assessor - do refits, bathrooms, valves, working at heights, storing tools etc and document and photo everything you can. Contact your local college to see if they can help! Ideally work with another to fulfill what you can

people have heard me make this point before but people are still mis informed, you have a C&g in H&V? couple of points
1 - whats a C&G????? thats an awarding body not a qual, you probably mean you have a tec cert. The old craft certificates were often referred to as a C&G which is probably were the confusion comes from but the modern equivalent for this is the NVQ2 not the Tec cert (see my thread about quals the truth)
2 - you have a H&V qual, not plumbing, why did you do a H&V? Dont get me wrong, it is a very good qual (infact what i did initially) but it aint plumbing

Yes, offering to work for nothing to do the nvq would maybe get a better response from sending the letters.

What do you mean pay £1600?! Im currently at college so hoping that when we complete the course they can push us in the right direction. Maybe they may know some local companies we can contact.

1. Sorry; I meant City & Guilds! I know its not a qualification its just the technical certificate.
2. The reason I chose the Heating and Ventilation course was because it was the only plumbing related course that was to run in the evening and was advised its a good course to do. BTW I haven't actually completed the course yet we have one exam left before the end of June but was just enquiring/researching here to get a few ideas

good luck with the exam mate, im sure youll be fine, the H&V course is very good and some people claim its a better qual than plumbing, i have both and would agree, many may not lol
C&G city and guilds what ever you call it its just the awarding body, like EAl who offer the same qual

You don't need to do a course as long as you have somewhere to work so the assessor can come and assess you on the job. It probably would be worth working for nothing rather than paying to go on a course.

to get an NVQ you need to do a course, cannot be done by on-site assessment alone, you would have to take all 11 module exams

But if you already have the skills surely you can just get the assessment done on site?

that wouldnt get you a qualification, just the on site assessments.

you then need all the theory assessments from college, your right you dont need to attend but you do have to take all the exams, 11 in total, all on-line and marked by C&G

then you have all the college based practical assessments. you can miss these if you do a direct access which is extra work on site, but this would include alot of extra work like lead etc that not many people can get access to for an additional on site assessment

If you go through the OSAT route there is no theory assessment, it is all on assessed practically on site.

you cannot ahcieve the 6089 without doing the GOLA assessments
