Just statred doing some work for BG, mainly servicing. Going ok apart from a few niggles. I was told that i would be working in or close to my own post code " The dispatch people will try to match or get you as close as possible to your local area"! we were told. First jobs 30 miles away!! Told them again where i lived, next jobs 24 miles away. I really don't mind so mutch but they aint paying for the fuel!! and at £20 per job less 20% tax it adds up to a fair chunk at the end of the week.

Also, during the induction they informed us that they needed men as they are behind on their servicing contrcts due to the severe winter, understandable. When asked to work 30 miles away, i was told this is because their guys are on holiday!!!!!......will someone tell the truth please.

I will say this though, i went out with one of their blokes a couple of times and he was top notch, really helpful as was their QA guy.. Shame the people at the top spoil it.....

But, overall it haas been ok so far

Has anyone else had this experience with BG?

so from what you say you havent actually broken even yet!!!!!!!!!!!!

After basic deductions £9.00 for a 60 mile round trip and a boiler service,£ 3.00 per hour
and £ 11 for a 48 mile round trip and a boiler service,£ 3.67 per hour

Then take in to account indirect expenses ,lucky if you are on over £2 an hour, maybe stay fishing or come work for me,will double it
Fool to myself,I know

imho

Yes! They do seem to have loads of tricks.

I was once working for a BG subbie company who supplied and installed 7 rads and boiler for about £1500 at the time. I think BG charged the customer £5000. Basically a nice cut for being a middle man.

But then I always thought that because BG gave credit people went to them.

However people may have been better getting a loan and buying an install for £1500 wouldn't they?

The thing is BG still have the well thought of brand of being the old nationalised British Gas, which seemed to work more in the customers interests and not the company that owns BG now which is a commercial concern.

And being blunt, people probably still trust them because they think they are still the old nationalised BG. In point when people speak of the "Gas Board" they usually mean BG.

Its is such a shame to hear they may be thought of and be acting like rip off merchants.

yu must be barking mad
60miles so what 7.00 for diesel and it must be what a hours travelling and what half hour for bg.s traditional chuck fga in if it isnt bad thats job done
so you get 13.00 for 1.5hrs work take off your deductions and that now becomes 10.00 1.5hrs or just over 6.00 an hour
they are taking the **** and another example of how companies are taking advantage of a workforce thats struggling
for that kind of money i would expect a latvian bog cleaner not a trained pro

Sorry, i think i have explained myself badly. "The Jobs" are some distance away but thre are between 5-7 jobs per day!!!

Apologies if i mislead you.......

still not a great rate after stoppages and diesel etc
i assume they want you to do tha fga in fga out and a quick once over

mmm....still does not sound that good

They issue contracts to customers to try to undercut us, then expect us to completely under cut ourselves to sub contract to them, to carry out their commitments at the unrealistic rates they have dreamt up, so they can undercut other small one/two man bands some more
Don’t know much, except it will end in tears

If Mrs Jones rang you up for a small repair, would you go out for £20,think not, why would you, think BG should be paying a least double and then its only a fair rate
Gas trained and all the responsibility that carries, if it comes to that ,will rather go and join B&Q

imho

Poor money, and you,ll have to wait for it as well, might be a bbu/gas fire,no fga, in and out.Do they have a shedule of rate dependant on type of boiler.
We did a lot late eighties/early nineties, they got tighter and tighter ,was,nt worthit in the end,
we also got the rubbish jobs the in house lads could,nt do or could,nt be bothered to do
