Bid tap fitting question

Hello everyone. I posted this already earlier today but no sign of it so I might have messed up the post somehow - apologies if this ends up being a double post!

I've just got some cheap Screwfix bib taps to fit above an old Belfast sink I'm putting into our utility room. However when attached to the chrome wall plate elbows I've got and tightened they sit at odd angles. Is it just a case of using loads of PTFE or hemp to make them sufficiently tight in the required position or am I missing something obvious?

if it just threads on, then yes use sufficient ptfe to seal and make tight.
your not to use hemp for potable water.
