Probably been said before .. but sick of coming across breakdowns where i dont have the bits on the van

what are you guys carrying on the van for boiler breakdowns?

In my areas there are never 2 of the same boiler so cant stock up on worcester parts only or vokera parts etc

cheers

Generally just carry programmers, pumps, 3 port valve 2 port valve, roomstat cylinder stat. Vaillant, worcester, alpha gaskets. Isar Pcb, a variety of prvs and that's about it.

The problem is unless you do contract work where your working on the same boilers constantly it is not possible to carry stock for everything as you would need to get a hgv to carry it all.

Also look at what boilers are common in the area if you have loads of installers fitting worcester then have a bit of worcester stock if you only fit 1 brand then carry stock for those if they are in warranty for years to come though don't worry about it.

Also I don't carry anything that will take over an hour to fit. If you have a full day already you don't want to fit a part that's going to take 2-3 hours to fit.

good advice mills cheers!

I carry pump heads and gaskets but only have a small van cant really clog it up ... hate leaving customers without heat while i wait for a part to come in

That's the only issue like millsy said there's that many makes n models and we never know where we're going on breakdowns till the call comes in. It's ok if you only work on 1 brand then you could carry stock but I feel if I buy a huge range of spares . 1 ; - I could end up with thousands of parts not being used and 2:- Brands upgrade regularly so I'd be worried that the stock will eventually become discontinued. You always see gas engineers on ebay selling unused stock and they never get there money back.
It's ok if you have a spares stockists close to you otherwise it can be a nightmare waiting.

Another thing to remember is if it is on your van for a year before it is used you have to cover the warranty on it if it fails!
