My boiler is broken and I'm currently waiting for an emergency visit, but this morning I noticed there was a terrible smell in 4/6 rooms. It's strongest in the bedroom where the boiler is located. It's a very pungent, chemical, acrid smell, a little bit like rotten eggs mixed with burning tyres. It's as if a pan has burnt out. I actually went outside and round to check on my neighbour because I thought maybe there was a fire in their house!
But nope, it's only in my house. I can't think of anything else that could be the culprit - the fact the boiler has broken down at the same time is just too big a coincidence. I've turned the boiler off and opened all the windows. I don't think it's bacteria or anything because this has never ever happened before and it came on very suddenly. My partner swears they can't smell anything but my son said he can smell it too.
I know Carbon Monoxide has no odour, and the Carbon Monoxide monitor hasn't gone off. Any ideas what this could be?
