Just had a Baxi platinum fitted and am finding that when the cold water tap is run and then shut off, the boiler comes on momentarily, is this correct? not sure if its firing up but can hear the fan switch on for a short while.

Probably water hammer tripping the flow switch. I would fit a shock arrestor or mini expansion vessel on the cold mains pipe. If it's just been installed get the installer back to fit it, as its not right.

Defo not right. You can get an arrester fitted into the pipe work which will alleviate water hammer

Great minds :)

another plumber I know had a bad time with one of these, hammer arrestor failed to work, nrvs all over and installed a 1 litre or bigger expn vessel as a final resort, he did the job for mates rates and ended up well out of pocket. Baxi tech were useless and he was a confirmed baxi fan until last week, and swears he will never fit another baxi again after that heap of junk.

Thanks for you help guys. We fitted the boiler as part of the building work on our house and had a gas safe guy connect up and commission it so we need to solve the problem ourselves.

It appears to fire up the combi when the cold tapes nearest to the boiler are tuned on, there is no hamming noise just a pressure change effects it. Would a check valve on the cold feed to the boiler help?

No. Sorry. That's curing the symptoms, not the problem.

We cannot and will not give advice on the installation or repair of boilers, cookers or ANY gas appliances for your own safety.
