Boiler controls - compatibility

Hi all,

I’ve just moved into a house with a boiler likely as old as me! For the time being it is staying but I need a better control unit - a digital one which i can time the heating and hot water separately but which also has a boost function for an hour or so when needed?

How do I know what unit will be compatible? It looks like there are 2 wires coming from the boiler, into a honeywell junction box then into the control unit for some reason?

Will any digi control work or do i need a specific type?

Any help or advice most appreciated!

P.s boiler is a potterton kingfisher mf if that matters? Current Control unit setup photo attached!

Drayton lifestyle one of the best ones out there in my opinion

Do you already have a timer / prog ?

Drayton are very good at the minute. Or a new Honeywell. Not the old type. The displays break after about 14 months.

Thanks both, yeah i have a conteoller - photo attached - but it’s just a turn dial type so not very specific time wise and not enough options. Will any deayton digital timer/controller work with this set up? See photo. It’s the old soemens thing i’m wanting to change.

Should be a stnd back plate so the lifestyle should fit without too much hassle

Drayton LP722 have a digital display and boost and i think it will fit on your existing programmer's back plate

As above either a 722 or 522 one is a 7 day timer (individual days) or the other is a 5 and 2 day timer sure you can work that code out.

Thanks everyone. As a (poor) DIY’er I guess it’s as simple as shutting off the power then removng the 2 wires from the current programmer and outting them into a new one - simple as that? Why is there a honeywell junction box there? Couldn’t that just be bypassed?

Might not need to do that

Power off
Undo the two screws on the underside of the prog
And lift the old prog off (pull out on the bottom a bit first tho)
Look on the back of the old and new prog do the line diagrams match if they do put the new one on in reverse of taking the old one off
