Hi to all,

I am seeking help with the following,

I Went of this morning to service a 308k (oil fired cooker with the boiler). Upon cleaning I found a water leak situted on back wall of chamber.
Having not had to work on the water/plumbing side of these I advised client of situation etc and left himto decide what he wanted to do.

Upon consequently contacting my aga trainer, he told me that access to the boiler was through the side of aga, ( but I could not recall seeing how to go about taking side off as I could not see any screws or bolts etc.) Was I missing the obvious, or is access actually via the back? And seeing as I had a gap of less than 40cm, would the cooker need to move any way?

My second issue is with regards the flow and return of hot water.. The hot water system I pressume is in direct (as I haven't checked). Obviously boiler can be disconnected and either removed or left opened in the cooker unit without water or full of sand.what do you do with with flow and return pipes if the storage tank is also heated via a immersion? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ps, this isn't for me to go back and do the work, as iv'e already told client that you need some one with more knowledge on wet plumbing to sort the leak.

Well it won't be direct on aga that's for sure! Indirect with header in loft. Usually gravity so 1" primaries. Just shut off supply to primary cws, drain and off u go. Immersion fine unless it's a primatic / single feed cylinder then it's sort of direct

Thanks. Will pass on advice to customer. Poor bloke has this along with electrical problems in house to deal with now.

might just beg to differ on that one, loads of old agas and rayburns I come across go into direct cyls, customers always winge after you wack in a newer cyl they arent as hot as before, but they wont pay for high eff coils either :)

the last 2 I pulled out were just good old copper, probably installed by a skilled installer in the 60s :)

The Aga you numpty.

Well talking of numpties, he is discussing Rayburns, but see were your coming fm though, apart fm the fact all the old direct ones Ive yanked out, the custards are used to orange bath water :)
