I live in Australia (in the cold part) with a boiler which is 20 years old and came with the house. Last winter it ran fine heating all the radiators. I've since done a renovation, relocated the boiler and had a hydronic plumber recommission it. He says the boiler is in good condition and thinks it will run for another 20 years. I've taken a bunch of high res pics of the unit and markings here-> brettule.com/temp/boiler

Symptoms:
Unit is lit, a call for heat from the house thermostat starts the burners and it runs. An hour or so later I discover the radiators are going cold, the house thermostat is still calling for heat but the boilers pilot light is out. The pump is spinning still circulating cold water.

Troubleshooting and test performed:
I relight the pilot, it takes 2 attempts. The burners still do not fire up unless I press the reset button on the temp dial and burners then fire up.

I lowered boiler temp dial from 74c to 65c. The unit ran for several hours until the end of the schedule. Next morning I wake to find the house cold, the house thermostat was calling for heat but the pilot was out, pump was spinning.

Relight the pilot, it takes 2 attempts. Burners don't fire until I press reset button and burners fire up.

I lower the boiler temp on the dial and the burners go out, the pilot stays lit. If I raise the boiler temp the burners kick in.

With the unit running and a call for heat I hit the pilot off button. All gas goes out. I relight the pilot and the burners kick back into life without the need to press the reset button.

Thoughts
It seems that when I discover the pilot has gone out I also have to hit the reset switch. Perhaps the unit is tripping somehow?

Sorry mate. Not sure what the gas regs are down under but here we have a forum rule preventing us from giving you such information as could cause you to harm yourself unless you're a member of the class of people formally trained, qualified and registered to work on gas systems.

There's one of our members, oz-plumber, who might see this and advise you accordingly.

Otherwise the advice us to call a qualified tradesman in.

Croppie,

Same as ours, just read them upside down, thought you would have know that, simpliz
