Hi , i`m new to the forum and hoping for some help and advice.
My old gas boiler is a Vulvcan floor standing boiler and to say its on its last legs is putting it mildly.
my problem is i cant afford a new one so my question is to help with the cost if i pick up a used condensing system boiler thats only a couple of years old ,would i get a gas safe engineer to fit it or are they not allowed to do this.
any advice greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Sorry Trebor but Few GSR engineers will fit a second hand boiler, the only case for me is moving an existing boiler within the property it was originally fitted.

How lows your budget?? Some fair boilers at fair prices.

Thanks for getting back to me ,I just need to get it done as cheep as is absolutely possible and also iv`e got no idea what an engineer would charge.

It depends where you are? Your best bet is to get some quotes in and tell the firms your on a tight budget, you could post in the I'm looking for a gas engineer forum on here?

Agree with ch4 post in the looking for an engineer section it very well may if we knew what your budget was.
I wouldnt fit a second hand boiler and do you have to ask yourself with a second hand boiler why it was taken out in the first place. Because they dont get replaced if its a good working boiler.

I wouldn't fit a 2nd hand boiler either. I'm sure some engineers will but do check their GSR cards. Also, I seem to remember a tech bulletin from gas safe about this sort of scenario....I'll check later

I believe it's allowed as long as current instructions and installation docs are available. I wouldn't do it though. To be honest if you buy secondhand I bet you'd be in the same position in a couple of years time.

+1 or you dont know why its been removed

Very true it's been removed for a reason There are definitely cheap boiler options out there as has already been said let one of the lads on here come and have a look for you we are a pretty honest bunch and you can always come back on here and ask questions

There is the old adage pay cheap pay twice. At least with a new boiler you would get the manufacturers warranty

The only circumstance I would even consider 2nd hand would be if

a) I had absolute personal knowledge of the original install (like it was in a family members house) AND
b) if the same engineer did both removal and re-install.

Even then I would try hard to avoid it.

You can pick up a gloworm for about £600 there not to bad either
The price to fit it is what ever your area I'm afraid
If you post up on here someone may be able to price it up for you

Thanks to all who've replied I appreciate the advice and will forget about a used boiler and as suggested put a post on for a quote I'm in Doncaster South Yorkshire. Forgot to put that on my original post.
