boiler scraps

My plumbers mate has recently asked if he can have the boilers for scrap to make his money up as he has found out that you can make £30 to £40 off a boiler from scrap value. Obviously all brass valves are to be stripped along with any copper pipe/connections but what else on these boilers can he make money off ? Heat exchanger copper? plate to plate ? pump??expansion vessel?gas valve?

Never really bothered with stripping down boilers so when he asked was curious what are the money parts on them so any pointers would be appreciated so he can earn little bit more .

Can't see there being much weight in cheaper metals on a gas boiler, like the casing, pump, vessel, etc. Worth gathering it all if you can get other scrap like rads. Last price I heard for iron/steel was £190 a tonne & mixed ( iron,steel, & bits of other metals), was £170. That is very easy to gather, though, as rads & oil boilers & washing machines can weigh a lot. A small oil boiler can be more than 100kg. You don't need to strip anything unless it has valuable copper, brass etc.Just where you store it, till you take it to sell, is the problem? Catalytic converters on car exhausts worth a lot, so don't give them away!
