Looking at the syphon on my daughter's Worcester Combi I see many particles at the bottom. Should the syphon be emptied and refilled at regular intervals to remove these? Are these particles a normal fallout from the condensation process?

Should only really need to be removed and cleaned by GSR on yearly service.

Particles are probably from the casting process for the heat exchanger as it is aluminium on the Worcester combi. Most likely just sand.

or the aluminum heat exchanger falling apart

I asked because the divertor valve or its motor had jammed. I freed it with a couple of taps from my screwdriver handle. Perhaps some particles were to blame.
