Hi,

I have a monsoon universal twin 4 bar pump giving me mains pressure to both hot and cold of my entire house. The outputs go through pressure regulator valves which regulate the pressure in the pipes to just below 3 bar.

I wanted to buy a Mira Platinum Digital shower. There are 2 versions. One with mains pressure controller and one with a pumped controller. Considering my monsoon pump gives me mains pressure I thought that the mains pressure controller was the one I required, but the manufacturer of the shower said this wouldn't work. They said I would have to buy the pumped controller and take a seperate feed from my tank and cylinder. All my pipes run through my monsoon pump and the pipes are already in position in the loft.

I dont know if I explained my system properly to the manufacturer.

Can someone explain why this shower wouldn't work on my system? And any suggestions on what I can do?

Thanks,

Damien.

Hi,
The mains pressure shower will work. Your original monsoon pump gives you mains pressured water to all of your outlets as 3 bar is the standard regulated mains pressure inside a dwelling. The way to look at it is that forget the method in which you acheive mains pressure and look at the basics. The pipes going to your shower is at mains pressure.... that's all you need to know. If you added an additional pump ie. the one on the new shower to the circuit you then have a powershower that is redundent as the water pressure is already at the required pressure. If you are worried about it phone the manufacturer and say that you have 3 bar at the shower outlets and see what they say.

Thanks Andy. The shower is a mixer type, I have 3 bar at both hot and cold feeds. Does that have anything to do with it? My dad suggested that the mains pressure controller would only have mains cold feed, and hot gravity feed. Is this right or wrong?

Still wondering why the manufacturer said no.

Thanks,

Damien

Well just got off the phone to the manufacturer again. They told me it wouldn't work. They said I needed to buy a pumped controller and connect it to a seperate gravity hot and cold feed. When I asked them to explain why it wouldn't work, they got very rude. The tone of the guy totally changed. I dont know if this means he didn't know or what.

I dont know what to do. Common sense tells me it will work, but twice the manufacturer has said it wont work (without an explination).

What should I do?

Go with what the manufacturer has said.

If your monsoon pump fails IMO the digital shower will also fail. If you turn the shower on then it has to wait for the monsoon pump to kick in which (although quick) it is not proper mains pressure. It is pumped.

You do not have mains pressure at the taps it is pumped giving you 3 bar of pressure.

This is my thinking anyway.

If you go against the manufacturers recommendation they will not cover it under warranty.
