I have a Bosch Worcester 24Si II boiler (see picture of control panel below). It's in an external housing outside the kitchen. Last night there was no hot water.
I've followed the instructions in the user manual:
- Initially the fault light was flashing slowly and after resetting it (holding the button down for five seconds) the fault light went out. However, there was still no hot water and the fault light came back on after running the tap. After a few resets, the fault light started flashing quickly.
- I turned the power switch off and on and the fault light went out. When I turned on the hot tap the boiler made some sounds as though it was starting, but it didn't, and the fault light (fast flashing) came on again. The flame detector light stayed off.
When I turned on the central heating, the boiler ignited (sound and exhaust coming from flue) but after a few seconds it turned off and the fault light came on again.
There are no blockages in the flue (that I can see) and there are electricity and gas supplies to the unit. The pressure gauge shows about 0.7 bar. The last service was about 18 months ago.
It looks as though the pressure is a bit low and I'd like to top up the boiler to see if that resolves the issue, before calling an engineer.
Underneath the boiler I can find the silver braided fill loop. There's only a tap on one end (right hand side in the photo) and it is currently at about 45 degrees, i.e. not in the fully open or fully closed position. I haven't moved the tap previously so the tap position was set by the engineer who serviced the boiler.
Is the tap on the right the correct one to refill the boiler?
If so, which way do I turn it to fill?
Is it usual that the tap would be at about a 45 degree position? (i.e. should I return it to this position after filling it?)
Any other ideas on what the fault might be, other than the boiler pressure
Thanks all,
Charlie
