There are a lot of brickbats thrown at the Plumbing Trade and very few bouquets. So with the Mod's permission I hope to address that in a small way, if I am out of order please feel free to edit this tread.
Having used the same plumber for the last 25 years I was somewhat upset to find that he has ceased trading due to a Heart Attack.
So now I needed to find a plumber for the future, asking around some of my friends in the building trade I was given one name that came very highly recommended, and that was Gas Technology UK Ltd. run by two Brothers in the Brighton Area.
I had already had a quote from BG to replace our central Heating Boiler only and that came to somewhat over £5000
,so I asked Lee and Gary if they would give me a quote and undertake the work. Their quote worked out at less than Half that of Bloody Greedy for exactly the same work.
Well they arrived exactly on the time promised and the first thing they did was to lay down protective cotton sheets in every area they needed to go into, despite my telling them that there was no need, as we intended to do "the house work" after they had left. They started the job after draining down, by pressure cleaning / flushing the system one radiator at a time, no blasting through the lot in one go. the old Boiler was removed and the new high efficient one replaced it. A tidy up of some old pipe work and a Fernox Total Filter fitted.
Whilst lee and Gary were having a cuppa I asked if they could also change a some of Taps for me whilst they were both here on site, obviously expecting to pay extra for this extra work. This they agreed to do if they had time.After refilling the system also adding the appropriate protective fluid, testing, and balancing the rads they set about tackling 4 sets of very stubborn taps( see my thread Sink/Bath Waste Spanner)the old taps eventually remove and posh new ones replaced. Then they set about vacuuming every area they had been in, three floors in all, and again protestations from me to no avail. Time to settle up the Bill and to my Total surprise it came to exactly the same as their original quote despite the extra work involved, we did of course add some embarrassment cash, but certainly not enough to cover the extra work involved.
