Good afternoon,

Can you please help?.

My plumber tried to replace our Bristan Cartridge but the Box spanner that he had would not quite reach the Cartridge's locking nut.

He used the correct size Box spanner as per the Bristan shower instructions.

Can you please advise if there is any other way or something he is missing?. Any tips please?

Regards

Boycey

He probably used the correct size box spanner but you get ones of different depth, that is were he came unstuck it seems by your post, deeper one required

Hi there, the part number of the Cartridge is 06734B.

This cart is probably the worst of all the bar mixer carts to remove. A box spanner is not that much use as there is very little nut showing and so the box spanner slips off and rounds off the nut. Likewise a shifting spanner around the nut is rarely successful. The problem is that the nut is so tight and so you have to use so much pressure to unscrew it that the spanner just slips off. I use a socket that is generally better quality than a box spanner, had to buy it for the job as it is deeper than usual. The best solution for your plumber would probably be to use a decent pair of grips (knipex) and hold the bar mixer very firmly, This seems a wrong thing to do as you think you are going to destroy the nut but it does work.

The worst scenario is where the nut has already been rounded off then it is hard as not even the socket will work and it is out with the grips ---Yuck.

Hope that helps.
