British Gas applications ?????

Hello all,

Does anyone know when British Gas start accepting applications for apprenticeships? I'm thinking its probably early next year but if anyone knows for sure it would really help.

Not sure - do they have a set in take each year? Think they may be cutting back.

They're currently recruiting "smart energy experts" though where you'll be trained to install meters.

yea i was told by one of there workers that they could be paying some of them off to save money ,but don,t know how true this is

I had a go at the Smart Energy Expert job - fitted me down to a tee (or so I thought) went through the 3 interview stages - finally I have to say as someone else advised me, it seems ageism is alive and well within BG (even though of course they claim the opposite). I did the technical stage well (the interviewer said she had never seen anyone complete it in the 10 mins allocated) and the role play well. I am still awaiting their reply on where I went wrong, all I know is I had one interviewer waxing lyrical about me and the other one who was called in late as a stand in didn't seem to give a monkeys. I am fit, reliable, an ex. sparks, had my own business for 30yrs and worked for the last 3 yrs in Engineering.
The real reason I would think is at 53 I am probably deemed too old; even though this role come 2022 when the meters are all due to be installed by, they will be laying off most of the 2600 installers they are taking on, so I would have thought an older person being readyish for retirement would be ideal.
Sorry to waffle lads but I am ****ed about this. On their patronising email they state "we had a lot of quality applications....blah" ... basically implying I am not quality enough ... Barstewards!

BG are making cut backs at the mo. 800 back office staff have been given the chop and up to 2000 engineers are waiting to see if they will get their marching orders

I mean the poor little lambs have only made £100 million profit this year

Yes my son is an engineer with them, as he says the money they make from installations, repairs, homecover etc is actually a minute proportion of their turnover; the main part being the selling of gas and electricity.

My mates a Manager for BG. He`s in an interview today to see if he can keep his job. This week he`s being told to make a list of engineers that he could possibly do without if he gets kept on. This list is to be given up to them before the interview takes place. Looks like there will be a big scatter soon of engineers. They are loosing contracts hand over fist due to the current climate.
Remember BG is an American company (Centrica) Its closest tie to being British is the word British Gas which is a registered trademark. They answer to the shareholders only, whosoever they are. Its a sell sell sell organisation. Good luck with your application.
