Check out "socket & see" electrical testing equipment, they love them
Also SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY ie IUP making sure you know how to identify and classify faults, know about testing open flues, TB008, and all the other cynical answers you will get haha

You will be herded into a room and given a multiple choice question paper on basic gas safety, much like the CCN1, if you pass then you get invited back into the room and they show you the "British Gas" way of doing things, if you don't pass then its "thanks for turning up.. cheery bye now"
At some point you will be assessed on how you strip down a boiler and you will be asked to find a fault they put on it (I did this before the assessment day).
As Kirk says, get versed in a Socket & See and carry a volt stick.
