the above letter is regarding the Bosch worcester Boiler that British Gas installed using some of my existing pipework which was too thin . They also did not flush the system properly and incorrectly fitted the eartyh bonding and did not fit the magnatech filter which was part of my contract.
Here are pics of the original pipework they did and about a 5th of the contamination

I realise this forum is for plummers but I wont be repairing any gas work myself and the faults have been corrected.
However I sent the letter to gas safe and they are looking into this. I think some of you may be horrified by the way they are carrying on.

We know how they carry on mate, not many on here will be shocked to see this I'm afraid. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, spread the word

Oh and welcome to he forum. Surprised that name hadn't been taken already!

August 2007 to January 2013, thats some delay in responding.

Where's Doodlebug?

thanks for the welcome I have put up alot oof the replies from BG on a blog called britishgas-complaints.com/my-boiler/ which you can comment on if you want . I hate them, it has taken over year of arguing to get this far. I cant put the web link here probably as I am a new member.

A year? The letter refers to an installation in 2007?

Oh - and welcome to the forum :)

I am not a gas fitter so i thought the install was ok. The system was maintained by homecare in this time. I only became aware of the faults when i deceided to refit the kitchen and contractors came in to remove the cooker and fit a new one and he saw the pipes and the electrics and nearlly condemed my flat

the installation was in 2007 but i only became aware of the fault after an outside contractor told me they were wrong. British gas have maintained the system under homecare so i thought it was ok. The stuff about the pipes being behind a cupboard is untrue as they were behind a free standing fridge and the Bg installer cut out loads of other pipes that went to the hot water tank. They are just lying to try to put me off.

trading on old values in current climate..... but for the money they charge they should be the standard which we should all want to be at. Sadly some times your better off employing a blind guide dog LOL.

They spend millions on adverts, tell them you give them permission to use your pictures for the next one :)

You should Tweet a link to your blog and include the hashtags #BritishGas and #Cowboys. That's the way to bring your blog to people's attention.

to be fair though they have come and fixed and offered £850, if you employed a one man band you may have got it repaired but very unlikely to get offered £850 as a gesture of goodwill, I would take it.

Its the principle not just the money.

By the way the homecare bloke who turned up to fix it and who actually messed it up and caused a water leak tried to sell me a magnatech filter for £250 which should have been fitted as part of my contract and said that I had not payed to have the system cleaned which was also on my contract.
Whern the supervisor turned up he agreed that the filter should have been fitted but decided to hold my builders up for a day by not getting it done but refused to get an electrician in to look at the electrics even though my qualified electrician explained to him that the law on earth bonding had changed way before this installation.
I have some great replies from customer services that I can post tomorrow.

yeah but the point is that they have actually apologised and offered some money. as much as we all hate BG, that is more then most cowboys do, most people who do bad work will never even answer the phone, let alone send loads of emails and offer cash

I don't think he needs to be fair to them over anything. I honestly think they only decided to go into damage control and get it sorted after he went public with his blog in July. Strange how they moved quickly to resolve this complaint after the complaint blog went up.

They held up my building work for three days. Things like the worktop could not be fitted because of this or the sink and I had to pay the builders because of this. Also none of the homecare people spotted the faults in 5 years so i want a refund on this as well. The boiler install was over £3000 so I dont think my demands are unreasonable.

Good on ya pal, if more unhappy BG customers were like you they would soon have to change the way they operated. I went out to an elderly couple today who had BG out twice as on a service plan, 2 motorised valves and 3 visits later the magic answer was " you need a powerflush".
