my friend has asked me to do a post on here for him, he is going to a one day induction to sub for them this month any ideas of what he will be doing on that day ? sensible answers please lol

probably a written and practical test to see if your competent and suit there ideas.

Probably assessing him for his susceptibility to brain washing, for the amount of rubbish they,ll want to fill his head with. Other than that no idea.

Able to drive, and tick boxes, essential. Ability to tell a good story would be an advantage.

If they are servicing, then they will be given a written exam first thing, if you fail , bye-bye. The ones that pass go on to find out how to fill in their paperwork etc..
If i remember correctly you have to do a boiler service in front of one of their trainers and find the faults with it, piece of proverbial if you are confident in what you are doing.

no idea whats involved in the installation induction.

I went to one for installing a few weeks back. Little written test. Loads and loads of health and safety nice free lunch and gallons of coffee! No big deal really. Just been too busy to do any work for them as yet.

The food they have put on for them is top notch. I've been contracting there now for 2 1/2 years and done all sorts of course all over the country and the food is what keeps me going.

Should drop the name BRITISH GAS and use their real name CENTRICA. The public still think BRITISH GAS is the old dependable nationalised BRITISh GAS and go to them for most things. In reality its a commercial company like any other and it wants to make a lot of money, as that is what commercial companies are for, not public service like the old BG was.

Blagging old dears into thinking their 10 year old Worcester combi is goosed and they cant get parts for it any more?

Yes they did pay a lot for the name to somebody, but not to the public customers that make it's money for it.

Hi Plumbdoctor, how did your friend get on?

Agree totally.

and it wants to make a lot of money

Noooooooo are you kidding me? They want to make money! Shame on them. They are a disgrace and I really can't believe I'm working for a company that wants to make money.

Your wrong there Peter, the original Gas Boards were public service companies.
It all became commercially motivated when they merged into British Gas.

I have no problem with then wanting to make a profit, and they can charge as much as they wish.

What I do have a problem with is them taking advantage of folk who know no better and saying work is required when it isn't, condemning boilers due to 'lack of parts availability, unnecessary powerflushing, etc.'

Got no problem with them making money, it's the way they do it. Unnecessary work, everthings I'd not ncs or ar so they all get condemned. The salesman even slate "the independents" ie us. making the customers think we can't be trusted to do a job properly. Funny thing is a lot of the work sold by bg is undertaken by us lowly independents anyway as subbys. So the customers don't even get what they think there paying over the odds for. Personally I wouldn't want to work for an underhanded company, besides there's more money in being self employed.
