Just had them on the phone , looking for gas fitters all over the country ????!!!!

What is going on ? What are they up to ? Why are they in desperate need of subs ???

Anyone have a clue what is there game now ?

not sure yet , they just called to ask if i was up for a interview to become a local sub contractor ? rest is to follow

They just want to get you on they're books so they can call when they get a busy week or two. I wasted a day doing an induction ages ago and then found out they had no work!

I would imagine green deal and affordable warm schemes. Under the Government’s recently launched Energy Companies Obligation (ECO) which runs alongside the Green Deal, accredited installers have funds provided by the big six energy companies, to cover the cost of a free boiler or free home insulation.

as above, its probably the green deal which is another load of tosh that large companies can make a killing on. Tax payers money in large corp's pockets again.

Yes its green deal, install work is about £25/h

However times are tight on install

That £25 is going to be nearer £15 as well by the time the BG surveyor has under allowed adequate time on the job. You don't get paid the hours it takes, more like the hours they expect you to do it it, which is often (always) a touch on the optimistic side.

correct

I subbed to them for a very sort time allowed 8 hours for a combi to combi inc new valve and power flush 10 hours for back boiler to combi and wanted 10 services done in a day that where miles apart was a joke.

They phoned me too, the lady said the green deal means they have massive amount of install jobs! Not really too interested in helping out that lot, even more so after reading above comments!

They just want us independants all working for them. Isn't there a law against monopoly's!!?

Give it 10 years and half of us will be wearing their uniform. Depressing thought.

I subbed to BG until around 1997. They used to be a good company to sub to paying good rates but it all changed around that time and went downhill rapidly for the installer. I baled out as i had plenty of other things going on. They are subbing the work out because it is cheaper for them than on the books guys and they can drop you whenever they feel like it.
I know a coulpe of guys still doing it up this way but they hate it. Their times allowed on the job are totally unrealistic.
If you are struggling and could do with some stress you can make a living if they give you enough work but expect to get every hard job that comes in. Their own guys will always get the easy straight swaps.

Btw if you do it expect to get shafted with claims so make sure your insurance is good.
