Hi all from lovely Veliko Tarnovo in Bulgaria. I have a Priti woodburning fire running underfloor heating in the main part of the house, and 5 radiators in the other rooms. It is an open system with a 20 litre top up tank in the upstairs bathroom. When i opened the drain tap in one of the downstairs bathrooms a nasty black liquid came out. As the house is only 4 years old is this normal. As I live here permanently, no antifreeze has been added even with -25c temperatures.Should I try to source something like Fernox and add it to the header tank or just flush with water.Very calcium rich.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
Regards Mike

Hi croxleydog and welcome to UKPlumbersForums.co.uk!

that will be a biuld up of sludge

its upto you whether you leave it until you get cold spots in the rads etc or you can drain it and flush it out with a cleaner like Fernox and then add an inhibitor when refilling

Hi all,
Thanks for your welcomes. Being an old motor mechanic and TV OB rigger, im not to well up on plumbing, but better to be safe than sorry, so thanks a lot for your advice.I dont suppose that you know what Fernox is called here as the written word is in cyrilic, similar to Russian, which I can read, but understand very little. Now I know what to do, I will go to my local CH store and with my pretty poor language skills and lots of arm waving, Im sure I will get the goods.
Once again, thanks to you all for your help,
Regards,
Mike (croxleydog)
