Anyone ever tried this sort of thing to increase business?

Got a few large firms round my way that attend these types of meetings & apparently they've hired a few self employed trades as contractors. Almost like a type of job interview, just without all the long winded paperwork.

I keep getting invited to them & wondered if anyone here had had an experience of them?

I might go along to one as it's free & have a look. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Can see it netting u a few small leaky taps and bog cleans? Not with local chamber of incompetence is it? Most decent jobs on council local tender portal and if contractor has to go to events to subby out work then the work may be "special"

Never been, but I imagine a load over confident stuffed shirts trying to get you to do something for almost nothing.
I once went to a so called networking event for landlords/ property investors and letting agents associated trades etc. . full of self centred twots out to make their 1st million from property at everybodyelse's expense. what a bunch of dick heads.

I can imagine it would be attended by th sort of people that you shouldn't normally choose to socialise/network with.

Still a small chance I might get something from it, I'll try anything once!

There is one down this way that an accountant custard of mine tried to get me to attend. Apparently you had to meet once a week to discuss opportunistys that you can send to the other businesses in the group. When they mentioned it started at 6am and lateness was not tolerated I nearly cried laughing. Sounds like school to me.

I reckon it's like someone mentioned, if you get a group of decent people it could work. That being said its not really needed unless your a new startup and have no customer base. I reckon in my cynical view the suits will try and use the working man for their own cheap jobs and you won't see much in return.

And this.

All the customers I met in that period I still have now both domestic and commercial , and some when they've left and gone to work else where , right group you'll easily add 6k to this years income IMHOIMHO

i find tradesmen can be the worst and best for passing work on. Take my cousin for example who was an electrician but has sacked it to re train as a teacher. i must have given him 3 re wires and countless other little jobs from passing his name on i reckon at least 8 grands worth of work . what do i get in return a couple of services Pffft On the other hand my mate who's a painter and decorator passed my details on for 3 bathroom refurbs 2 boilers swaps and a few small jobs what have i given him in return sweet FA.

Depends on the tradesman that pass your number on. The cheap as chips ones work for cheap as chips customers.
If they charge properly, normally they're good leads.
