Does anyone know of a good cable detector?

Preferably one that doesn't cost the earth......(no pun intended)

After a recent mishap in my own house, this may be a useful piece of kit, it wasn't my fault really! the cable was running diagonally.....honest.... it wasn't my fault.....:D

The best pipe and cable detectors are your eyes mate lol  I remember my first ch job on my own circular saw through the cable and I did use a detector. I have since replaced I am not over confident with them!

Another bit of kit to rattle around the van and every time you want to use it the 3 quid battery is flat in thirty years ive hit one cable my fault and one not my fault as said using your eyes and common sense is good

Stanley do a good one, only 30 quid i think i paid. Also finds pipes and other metals.

I use mine for when drilling in walls, you just never know if theres a pipe running somewere, especially on a chimney breast.

I am thinking of getting myself a bosch dmf10, expensive at around 70 quid (51 from powertoolsuk) but it seems to get good reviews elsewhere on this forum.

agree that your eyes and common sense are the best. I use the detector to confirm what I think. now the bosch d-tect 150 is nifty since it tells you how deep the wire, pipe etc is into the wall.

They don't detect the plastic pipes though!!!!!!

parts center have one on offer now for less than £10. i have one they are really reliable and useful
