Hi, having trouble with a gas fire as some might have read in previous post.

10mm gas pipe feeding fire kinked and not protected comming out of floor in fron of fire. Small amount of sooting on chair brick. Little signs of being serviced recently. Data badge mostly peeled off so not readable. No MIs. Only bit on data badge ledgible is bit chich says '400 Supa', which is the model im guessing. had to AR it as couldnt check it for safety. letting agents not happy and un sympathetic. Tried searching online for 'supa 400' which DOES bring up a gas fire, but not the same one. The one im working on is a basket DFE, the googled one isnt.

Does anyone know of a DFE basket fire called supa 400? at least then i could get hold of the insturctions.

thanks

i believe Graham is right,it is a focal point if a basket dfe dont forget normally a 175 mm flue required and 100cm2 ventilation

thanks.

ended up calling GS, who said i was wrong to AR it and just do a flue flow and spillage test. replaced kinked pipe also.

In the absence of manufacturer instructions, refer to BS5871 Part 3 (DFE gas fire manual will be fine) Minimum safety checks carried out inaccordance with GSIU regs 26(9). If then all OK, pass it. Might not be easy if you don't know the kW input and required pressure (normaly 20mbar).

is that requirment for all dfe or lets say it's a dfe under 7kw,regarding ventilation is 100cm2 still needed.and is a dfe a outset freestanding dummy coals pepple etc only,or can it be inset, just some confusion on what can be described as a dfe

MI will tell you what type of fire it is, but on inspection im calling anything that is free standing inside the fireplace opening as DFE and anything set into the opening with a backplate and spigot opening into the fireplace opening an ILFE

again you need to read the mi,s but this would be applicable in most cases

If its a DFE 7kW does not normally come into it. It requires 100cm2 up to 20kW regardless, unless the manufacturer states otherwise. Refer BS5871 Part3 section 8.2. The up to 7kW may be applicable if you have a chimney flow rate greater than 70m3/hr.
