If you already have a plumber, why not ask him?

Yes no problem but like said your plumber should know this it's pretty basic stuff

Thanks for the replies.
I had two plumbers look at it - both said they were not sure without knowing the make.
Hence I took it out and posted on the forum.
I need to find another plumber.

Two plumbers looked and said that without knowing the maker they could not be sure.
So I took it out and posted here in the hope someone might recognise it.
Please note the 3 round pipes are interconnected and open end to end.

Blanks and vent in the top, valves and electrical element in the bottom (or replace the element with a blank plug. If you keep the element, you can dry towels on it without having the heating on). Oh, and find a new plumber!

Thank you leelister6. Just to be clear-the HW flow will not take the direct path of least resistance straight across the bottom round pipe which is open end to end between the valves?

No not at all. Your plumbers sound like they were "top of the class" at collage and finished their PLASTERING apprenticeships with distinction .

I have seen the rad make before and had some serious problem with them in the vertical top entry only position, can't just think of the name
made in Ireland, and then they moved I think to Wales, they have very small holes drilled in the tube into the flat section so pressure drop is high, when the name comes to me I will post it
I think the problem is the long interconnecting tube that is not on a normal rad, you may have to just fit it and see what happens, I am not been funny but your average plumber or even a very smart
one will not have the answer.

Tony

Might have to get the flow and return correctly to the rad! Take element out hook rad up to heating if the rad only gets tepid its not working, switch pipes around and should be it, could be messy but should work! Hopefully it will work first go!

OK, I give up.

I will chuck it and ask the plumber to supply/fit a proper new rad designed for the job.

Thanks to all - much appreciated.
