Hi there,

I have just moved into a new property and am looking to replace an old kitchen tap. The fitting under the sink though is a strange one I have not seen before and I would be grateful if anyone could tell me how this is done. Pleaes see the attached picture.

Thanks in advance
Pete

You need whats called a "backnut tightner" but goes by other names as well, its like a hexagonol tube, if you but one, it comes with 2 tubes, each end with different sizes. It will just fit over the nut and you undo. Often you will find the nuts seeze up through rust and such forth so be prepared for a fight.lol

your thinking of a box spanner,if you look closely at the picture, there is no nut on the stud.
it looks like the nut is fixed in the work top,i would try undoing the stud, not seen one like that, normally just a C washer and brass nut.

Thanks for your help. Yes, it is a strange fitting as there is no hexagonal nut to unscrew under the sink. There are however two of the threaded rods (one front one back) going though the fixing abut with no nut attached and two thinner flexible springs that appear to do nothing (you can see one of each on the picture).
