Dear Plumbpals

please allow me to introduce myself, as a newbie ,although as I hopefully will not make a career out of this I won't go overboard on the intro. Im not a plumber but have managed to plumb my own home hot and cold supplies. This request is for an elderly lady I'm trying to help.

Please see enclosed snap. This mixer works fine on cold but dribbles the hot. I have checked the pressure with the ceramic cartridges removed and its fine - from a gravity fed electric immersor tank. I have replaced the cartridge with the working bathroom sink hot one - problem persists. I have tried poking wires through both the inner and outer channels in the the spout from the nozzle end - problem persists. I would now like to remove the spout from the unit and try to check its clear. But I can't. There is no grub scew at the back and Ive tried turning it 90 and 270 degrees to inline with the base and pulling it but it does not come off although the sink itself is so flimsy the surface bends in normal use just turning the levers so I am reluctant to really go to town yanking the spout while holding the base.

There is a junction line at Y in the picture as if the ring X above it may unscrew but this I cannot manage either. There is no name on the unit but the code WQ0513 appears at the front , in the middle just above where the unit joins the sink.Does anyone know which manufacturer makes this unit or how to remove the spout?
Any help would be gratefully received,

look harder for a grub screw and youll robably find the problem is the flexi feeding the hw has collapsed

That design of mixer has been made (or adapted) by just about every tap importer active in the UK for the last 20 years - and that will be hundreds of companies, most of whom survive just a year or two.

As albatross says - just replace it, and make sure you get a dual flow mixer (I am assuming cold is mains?)

Re mixer tap. Hi its hurdy. Looks like a waist of time and energy spending any more time and energy on those taps, quicker to replace, good luck hurdy.

can you get the black flow straightener out of the outlet of the spout? May be a blockage behind it?

If you till cannot get the spout of then its best to remove the tap and try and then you may as well swap it out for a new one

Reply, ( I think - whats a Trackback with Separate multiple URLs ? sounds like Plumbing)

Dear All, thanks for the tips
Have looked again , cannot see no grub screw, don't think hose is collapsed as pressure is ok with cartridge
removed. Will just have to remove the mixer - wanted to try and avoid this. I suppose the thread can be closed
as I May not get back to it for a few weeks but if its still open I will update when I do,

thanks again

Hi

We rarely lose threads as its nice to leave it open for you to come back and update even if you found the resolution.

I really would just swap it out for a new one though, nice shiny new tap with a guarantee.

Re: Cant Identify Kitchen Mixer / Hot Tap dribbles - SOLUTION

Ok I got it sorted. I forget what the brand name was but it was printed on the little plastic imitation chrome
covers you flip off that hide the screwon the cartridges.( ie imported then ' we'll put our brand on a plastic bit so it looks like ours ')

I got the spout off by removing the ring ( marked at x, y on photo ) - you just need some
quality rubber washing up gloves to get the friction.

Unfortunatelly by this time I had tried using a bit of copper electrical wire up the spout from inside the monobloc
, before I worked out the quality rubber trick, wire snapped with all the waggling and broke inside the spout so Had to buy
a unit anyway but got a decent one from a local hypermarket - it was actually cheaper than theyre budget line too.
Oh yes and the budget line was actually made of cast iron with chrome inserts I think - wouldve bent the sink if I fitted it.
Hate to think how many poor souls have had that as a solution.

Oh yes no.2 the skilled monkey that fitted the original unit had fitted it back to front so that the
hot water ( already on very low pressure ) had the more tortuious flow path and had also neglected the plate that goes underneath above the fixing screw to give stability/solid fixing to the unit. I know as I found it down the back of the
sink unit. This in a sheltered housing association.

Anyway thanks to all, signing off for the near future
