How much can i charge to put sumones caped meter back into action?, just had a phone call off a customer saying he had it capped off by southern gas for plumeing nusiance to next door neighour and says southern gas gave him my number and have never had a call like this and is now asking how much, what is reasonable, baring in mind, everything is ok and its just putting it back into action, and yes i hold Met1. thanks guys/girls.

Didn't realize the gas supplier would cap for nuisance pluming! Has the flue since been altered by a GSR engineer?
 
yeah, the guy said he had the boiler moved etc, so im going to check it alll out, i just want to know if everything is ok and up to standards, how much roughly can i charge the guy to just uncap and commision appliances?. cheers
 
Sounds a bit dodgy to me. Why hasn't the GSR who moved the boiler uncapped the meter? you don't need MET1 for this.

If the boiler has been moved then surely it would have been recommisioned at the time? If it hasnt, then why? I would be very cautious approaching this one to be honest.

As for charges, what do you charge per hour and how long will it take you.

hourly rate for me ,
1h charge to turn up
investigation if flue is s per MI
drop test+visual
if all ok will reconnect it no probs
you do not have to have MET 1 to re connect cupped meter imho
 
this has obviously been altered by a non gas hence the phone call to you, the energy supplier wont have your number so the punter is trying to con you, i wouldnt waste my fuel going to it as you will be hoodwinked into signing off an illegal install, and even if you do go and see it is dodgy and RIDDOR it etc you wonty get paid for your trouble, stay in and make a cuppa, it will be far more profitable
 
as kirkgas just read my mind, bloody builders installed the boiler as the place had a fire and was all damamged completely renovated, just looked at the paperwork from southern gas, it was the flue had been incorrectly installed and the flue gases where entering the next door neighbours property through the windown and door when open, now the BUILDERS have installed a pluming kit from the ground floor all the way to the top of the roof(flat roof), just done a visual on it aint touched it , as it is a ETM Meter also and there was no money on there, so nothing touched.
 
These people drive me mad . They get a cheap illegal job done and then moan when it costs loads to put it right
 
I would go, do a full systems / installations check and then if any faults are found, raise all the correct warning notices etc, cap off and charge them.

Just make sure they know you are going to check the system not garentee putting it back on.

Call it an inspection.
 
if it is confirmed that it was done by non RGI it is illegal to re-commission
 
charge £200, and tell them you will start with a visual of the install.
get the money before you start tho.

not new and deffo from a TB which states the dilema a gas guy can find themslef when asked to complete/commission work but if confirmed it was done by non gas then yes it needs ripped out or you take responsibility for it, and why should you take responsibilty for non gas work to save the customer money, although if you want to its fairly easy be hoodwinked into believing that the gas guy who did it is on holiday/broke his leg/dead and cant commission it, but i wouldnt for all the tea in china, im sure someone will advise which TB it is, if not i will have a look through them when i get a chance, you might need to remind me!!!!
 
I'm sure the TB was just to make you aware of the consequences of doing such work. It is not illegal but not advisable to do this as you as the commissioning engineer take the rap for anything that may be wrong.

Transco, SGN etc give out a card to people who don't know anybody to do the work for them saying contact GS who give out the numbers of a few local guys.

Your call at the end of the day but if you decide to do it, check it with a fine tooth comb and charge accordingly.
 
I dread doing these jobs as usually there is no paperwork and sometimes a capped pipe . I tend to avoid these jobs as there is something major wrong which i am not prepared to sign my name to.
 
the nutter landlord rang me asking me to remove the sealing disc again, apparenetly the ''''GAS SAFE'''' Builder has done a runner all of a sudden, told him sorry mate, it aint worth the hassle for me,get sumone else in, and then he started going please just remove the cap thats all i want, and again ''sorry mate aint worth the grief if anything happens'' and just hung up. sum whackoss out there man.

You made the right decision imo.
 
I was asked to do exactly the same to a property in Sheffield that was featured on one of the rogue trader programs. It was the service provider who had capped the meter due to the house holder wanting to take out an insurance plan on his heating and they went to inspect the gas appliances. I went along and found the flue total disconnected as the hole was about 30mm to high, no safety discharge pipework at all and not one clip on the undersized gas pipe which ran about 4-5 meters and that was only visual.

I left the property with meter still capped and issued a quote to rectify the works and as suggested it was basically rip out and re-install which I quoted for handsomely and it was accepted.

If I were you I would approach with a similar method or just leave it alone
 
think plumbing kits have a max distance of 6m and air inlet and poc discharge need to be in same pressure zone kirk knows more about this stuff
