I got a house that wants to get rid off 3 bathroom basins and all wastes are lead. What is the best way to cap these off. Maybe just a mcalpine blanking cap? Or the best bet to take it back to stack and blank there some how?

Cheers chaps

When you say back to the stack, how do I fill in the boss at stack? Mortar will fall through?

Neat solution if skilled at soldering lead. Scrape lead, flux, and use stick solder. Practice on scrap piece first. Soldering lead is more skilled than making a copper solder joint.

yes and no, as there will be a nice grove/edge and it will be thick so no worries of burning though (unless using oxy) he will be fine

doesnt need to be 1000% watertight as the fold will handle that

Do you think he will have a mole skin & a stick of Plumbers metal Joni ? LOL

Thanks chaps, I shall have a go at squeeze and solder and go from there. Will keep you updated

Ok so looks like lots of nice lead for the garage. From the picture above do I need an ordinary iron plug to blank the hot supply? Is it 1/2 inch?

Cheers guys. I can't remember the last time I came across iron supplies

Looks more like 3/4" to me. It'd be worth picking up 1/2", 3/4" and 1" while you're at the merchant. They're cheap enough.

Where is the best place to get iron fittings as screwfix or toolstation don't do them. I need them today.

Luckily for me all lead wastes went into hoppers so not having to solder shut. Although I am a bit gutted as was looking forward to having a go. Will have a go on the lovely bit of scrap I got later

Pop in to any proper plumbers merchant, local or one of the big boys, plumb Center, city plumbing etc

For future reference it is usually quicker and easier to stick a multifit union and a cap onto a waste pipe.

So I cannot find any iron pipe fittings. Everyone only seems to have black Iron and no galvanised. Cannot even find dzr fittings at mo

If you can't get on locally look on the Internet or go for a male iron to copper and use a stub with a cap end if you need it now
