Hi all, I'm currently working as a Scaffolder and have been for the past 12 years since I was 16. I'm having problems with my back so am thinking about changing trades and training as a Plumber.

The amount of weight I have carried on my right shoulder over the years is scary.

I have read lots about distance learning on here so it has put some doubts into my mind about going with one of these training providers.

I work full time as a Scaff so I would have to work around this.

The company I contacted is called new career skills and they are sending a 'Career's advisor' round next thursday.

What should I be looking out for?

What qualifications do I realistically have to gain before I would be able to set up on my own?

Is this really a Salesman coming to my house who is just after my money?

I'm not worried about not been able to get hand's on experience as I will pester numerous companies in my area and offer my services for free.

Any advice will be gratefully appreciated.

Regards

Chris

yep and like to remove you of £5000

He's been calling over and over again. I spoke to him and asked if I got the NVQ2 and he said I wouldn't need it at all. All company's would take me on without it he said. After asking how much could i command in my first year in Plumbing he said 42k. I nearly burst out laughing.

its all changing to the diploma 6189, google everything your unsure about, keep reading archive posts on here also. get lots of information yourself before he arrives. the 42k he said..... you was right to laugh! get some basic books to get going then just keep progressing all the time. dont count on doing free labour because not many would agree to it believe it or not.

Electrician? bit cleaner and generaly not quite as pysical.

nobody will touch you without an nvq, if you dont believe me try some companies now as a test

What blackcatgas says is bang on the money,42k where does this bloke live? and he cant give you an NVQ2 with the course.
College evening classse is your best bet i would think, your looking at 4k but you can split payments.

Because the just think a pipe is a pipe, look at the 42K carrot and they loose all common sense.

lol tamz, how many times does this come up? it appeas many centres are selling it as plumbing

hi, im doing the 6128 and its still plumbing. C&G says heating and Ventilating and ductwork. Never done any modules on ductwork. All modules same as 6129.

then why have two different quals if they are the same? centres may advertise as plumbing, lean towards plumbing, even says its plumbing but it isnt. doesnt matter how much you try to pursuade anyone its not plumbing, its H&V
