Hi I have an open vented heating system Baxi solo3 boiler honeywell controls 3 port valve, when the boiler is working there is a constant flow of hot water run into the expansion tank is this correct there is no water going out of the overflow pipe and the heating and hot water is fine but the water in expansion tank seems very hot ( I know it is called an expansion tank and that is where the water should be going) any ideas or just put my mind at rest,
regards Paul

No this is not right. Has it always done this? If so it sounds as though the vent has been put on the positive side of the pump. Need a little bit more info or photo of the layout

definetly not right, could be for a couple of reasons, have there been any changes to your system lately?
i would suggest that your system is older, and maybe sludged up, a good power flush will fix that.
tho as dave says, more info needed.

Hi thanks for all the help I have turned the pump down to 2 and it has now stoped,

a few answers to some of your posts yes it had always done this when the heating engineer fitted the boiler six years a go I did ask him if this was right and he told me it was ok and I did check with him again when he service it same answer,

Yes there now has been a change in the system the heat exchanger had to be replaced it had corroded though ( British Gas came for the service and condemend the system quote of £4253 to replace it they said you could not get parts any more)

So I got in contact with baxi fixed price repair £270 great service told the reason heat exchanger went was because the pump had been over pumping putting air into the system been advised to flush the system by adding Sential X400 leave it for four weeks then flush though told not a go idea to have it jet flushed just let the water run though the system a few times.
I have learnt two things do not always trust a person because the have the papers to say the know what they are talking about and never trust or use British gas again.

And thank you for all your helpful POSTS regards Paul
