central heating water quality test

can anyone recommend a good test kit to test most heating water quality .I have heard manufacturer kits only work on their own products .

I'm intrigued with this too. Mate of mine gave me his tds meter. It works but I have no idea what a good reading is????

The TDS needs to be within 10 percent of tap water.

when flushing out you should aim to have clear water running out to within 10% of the tds reading of the cold water supply.

some inhibitor manufacturers make test kits to test for levels of ther own products, they will work on other brands if the chemicals in the inhibitor are the same.

if you want a tds meter, ebay is prob your best bet.

No need to pay £60,you can get them on Ebay,tropical fish owners use them to test the water in the fish tanks,they're cheap

The hanna dist1 is what I have. It's very good.

You could also consider a turbidity tube like the kamco one, that's what I use when flushing out. The simple things are the best.
