I have a Chaffoteaux Corvec Britony II multipoint water heater which is working fine. But in the really cold weather the hot water is not really hot enough even when set to maximum. I'm wondering if the heater matrix has scaled up with lime scale and needs cleaning. In the servicing guide for hard water areas (which mine is) it recommends to descale the heating body with 1 part hydrochloric acid & 5 parts water but I can't find any where to buy the acid is their any other suitable cleaner.

Gas man, Thanks for your quick reply and agree with what you say but a neighbour has the same system and the water is definitely hotter. I was just thinking it might be worth trying a clean of the heater matrix and what would be the best cleaner to use. nobby1

puddle, one of our helpful mods on here was talking about a product we could use on combi plate heat exchangers may also be suitable for your application i will do a search on here see if i can find it

Does your hot tap seem to be running faster or slower than normal?
Faster, it'll be your diaphragm & maybe water governor, also slow ignition device req's cleaning & setting up.
Slower, could be worth looking at the cold water inlet valve [ scaled up] have had this a number of times even in soft water area.
Best get a GS eng to check
