Pipe rose out of ground, 3/4", I think steel, atop this was one elbow. Straight into this was screwed one ancient looking outside tap.

Presuming I've identified it all correctly, what would you choose to do as the simplest method of sticking on a new outside tap?

22mm outside tap, lots of PTFE, straight into steel elbow? Would that work?

Just take a 1/2" tap and a 3/4" x 1/2" bush🙂

You will know a 3/4" tap by looking at it.

I'm confused...

If it looks approximately like the size of a 22mm/3/4" copper pipe but is made of iron then it'll be 1/2" iron.....Iron pipe is measured on the nominal bore (i.d) but do as a previous poster said take a 1/2 x 3/4" bush and a 1/2" bib tap and you can't go wrong.

Thanks. So have I ordered the right thing:

When they write "male x female reducing" I'm guessing they mean it's the female end that's reducing and therefore this is the right fitting? Looks like it from the picture.

How come? So it matches tap?

I actually went for galvinised ones in the end because it's outdoors and thought that might be a good idea?
